He had been relieved to see Soul up on her feet, even if it was rather shakily and unsteadily- and was even more relieved to see Gold, who appeared relatively unharmed compared to the other two. The other person... Red wasn't one for shooting the breeze or catching up with other people, happy to see that Gold and Soul weren't dead, and faring decently enough. He wouldn't inquire further.
But the third person- the one whose name he didn't know... those harsh crimson eyes wandered over, glaring at the third trainer, only to see that hauntingly familiar expression. The same disdainful, angered look Giovanni had... exactly the same.
"L-Look, they say Boss had a kid with red hair, okay?! That's all I know!"
Something snapped within Red at that very moment, fists clenching, the champion willing Damian to return so he could sic the Charizard on this kid and rip out the family tree by the root... no, no, he was overreacting. He couldn't go after everybody with red hair like they were Giovanni's son... he was letting this all get to him, the teenager sighing as he looked away, noting that Damian had quickly returned, a triumphant spark in his eyes, while Mex seemed rather apathetic about the entire ordeal. He noted a bright flash in the corner- Sparky taking out three Houndooms with a single Thunderbolt- and quietly mumbled a bit of praise to the rodent when the yellow creature bolted past Gold and Soul to hop on his shoulder. Wait... Gold and Soul? Where was that kid?
"...Where'd that friend of yours go?"
The younger teenager had looked wounded- badly- so why would he run? The only reason he'd run was if his suspicions were confirmed... dammit, Red was so tempted to send his Charizard after the Rockets... only to come back to reality, looking over his shoulder at the loads of grunts, each one all-too-eager to be the one who took out the champion that crippled their organization. For all Red knew, even if he sent out five Pokemon- Titan wasn't going to be a good bet in a fight like this- he'd probably still be outnumbered ten-to-one. There was a bit of a sigh, Red noting that his three starters had essentially made a living wall between the three trainers and the legion of Rockets. Though Red calmly threw out the Pokeball containing his Espeon, Mercury appearing rather unamused, he felt the need to ask the question.
"You two want to stay here and fight? I can take care of them, but the more backup I have, the more we can pick off. I'd understand, though- after all the hell you two have been through today, I wouldn't blame you for going."
The more they could pick off... the more they could kill. He would have to save interrogating the red-haired boy for later, if he could even find him... right now, Red's concern was with wiping Team Rocket out right here, destroying every last member that still had the nerve to be in Goldenrod. The media would probably be here soon... that wouldn't be pretty. No doubt Lance would get here once he heard about Red's return. Oh, that really wouldn't be pretty.
They were getting out their Pokeballs... wow, were they really just going to sic their whole team on him? Strength in numbers, he supposed... even the idea of a legion of crazed Tyranitars charging at him didn't bother him, because, after being on Mt. Silver for so long, each one of his Pokemon had learned how to take on the crazed monsters... he was a bit concerned about Mercury, but the Espeon was rather clever, and would use the environment to his advantage if he had to.
He noted the flashes of red lights, the variety of shapes and sizes that emerged from the small spheres. Muk, Sandslash, Arbok- hey, a few Hypno- Crobat, Houndoom, Vileplume... he couldn't even count the number of species that were being thrown out, Red actually impressed with their repertoire. Team Rocket had grown- maybe he wouldn't just wipe the floor with their organization this time- but the grunts still seemed unnerved that all the champion did was jam his hands in his pockets, Sparky looking at him expectantly.
"I'm giving you all until the count of ten before I kill you."
They weren't budging... great. Well, at least he couldn't blame himself for killing them. If they weren't going to run, they were going to die... and, noting his five Pokemon all ready to charge into the battlefield- especially Damian, who was slavering at the mouth, revealing rows of sharp teeth and twitching his tail excitedly. As if making sure that he was doing the right thing, Red looked over his shoulder one more time.
"Gold... Soul. What do you say? I'm not sure how a three-on-three battle will go, but I'm sure it'll be... interesting."
If interesting meant chaotic, sure. He wasn't fighting alongside Lance or Green, for sure... but Red liked these two. Hell, hopefully, one day, they'd be the ones to dethrone him, so he could go home and stop worrying about being challenged all day. After all- once you were a champion, you kept the title for life. He'd have all the perks with none of the mobs chasing after him, begging for a fight. It sounded nice- an odd tangent of thought to go after considering Team Rocket would like nothing better than to strangle him.

Gold watched alongside with Soul and Silver as Red pretty much single-handedly defeated the remaining Houndoom that approached the group. Gold face remained expressionless as he helped Soul stand up, slinging one of her arms over his shoulder as he watched the Champion in action. His Pokemon were amazing, such grace and elegance in every move, but at the same time they have intense ferocity and power with each striking blow. Gold idolized that in Red and was pretty satisfied that Red came 'to the rescue'. Jack stood from afar watching the battle, particularly Damian, admiring the blazing glory with which the Charizard battled with. Gold, holding onto Soul, looked over at the Typhlosion, noticing that he too was observing an idol. What better time than this to see a Champion battling without mercy against an evil organization like that of Team Rocket. Caught up in the moment, Gold did not realize Silver slipping away from the area. Where did he go?
"I wouldn't say he's a friend," Gold answered, responding to Red's question about the whereabouts of Silver, "but, I have no clue about where he could have gone. He's a fast runner even if he's hurt." Gold looked at his body compared to Soul's. He wasn't as dinged up as his best friend or Silver was, but he was still hurting. A scratch on his face, damaged upper back, and a pretty banged up leg. Blood also coming from open wounds all over his body. The battle was intense, but it was not over. Just then, some Team Rocket members came out of no where and stood across from Red and the duo. Gold groaned as he gritted and braced his teeth, eyes glaring at the opposition. They suddenly started to release a wide variety of fully evolved Pokemon and Gold felt his heart begin to pound even more. This was serious. By far this was the most emotional and intense time of Gold's life... but he loved it. He lived for this thrill, this adrenaline rush.
"I'll back you up." Gold nodded, looking at Soul. She could not have been focused on the battle in her condition, nor could she be able to fight, in Gold's opinion. He thought of an alternative, "Soul... do you think you can go locate Silver? He could not have gone north up to where the National Park was, so he must have headed south. I think it's best if you go find him. Red and I will take care of Team Rocket." He may have sounded selfish, but he did not have any intentions of sounding in such a way. He was looking out for her; plus, he was in a much more suited condition to battle, being the strongest perhaps of the two and on the same (if not higher) level than Silver. "Go, please." He released her arm from around his shoulder and stepped up beside Red, looking at the Champion before facing off against the Team Rocket Grunts. Taking out five PokeBalls, Gold tossed them forward, surrounding his Typhlosion, as an Aipom, Politoed, Umbreon, Scizor, and Sudowoodo emerged from the bright white light. Each of Gold's main six Pokemon gave out a battle cry and darted forward.
Gold looked back at Soul intensely, "GO!" Focus returning on the battle area, Gold commanded his team, "Jack, Flame Wheel! Abe, Dynamic Punch! Queen, Ice Punch! Luna, Faint Attack! X, Metal Claw! Woody, Slam!"
Upon command, Gold's Pokemon went into action. Jack curled into a ball and began spinning in place as thin flames shrouded the Typhlosion's entire body, forming a flaming orb. Finally, Jack zipped forward, aiming at a group of Muk slipping its way towards the party. Almost immediately, Jack burnt holes into each of the Muk, causing them to roar out in pain. Jack emerged from his flaming orb, ready for the next command.
Abe and Queen went after two Rhydons who were stomping in their direction. Drill spinning, the male Rhydon lowered his body at Abe, but the Aipom was quick and nimble enough to jump atop the Drill Pokemon's head. Wailing happily, Abe began to dance on Rhydon's head, before slamming his tail-fist into the posterior of Rhydon. Almost instantly, the villainous Pokemon's eyes began to spiral and it began to falter distastefully. Cheering, Abe began to dance on the rubblish ground before being Mega Kicked by the female Rhydon. Flying faraway, Abe landed on a small building and slid down to the Earth, in pain. Angry, Queen came up from the side of the other Rhydon and planted a firm icy punch in its gut, causing it to collapse on the faltering Rhydon.
Eying Red's Espeon, Luna purred interestingly as she looked to her opponents with a dank look in her face. What better way to impress a potential mate than by showing him that she could battle? Quickly, the Umbreon began her pursuit, disappearing and reappearing around a group of thick Vileplume. When she had them completely confused, Luna went in and bit them on their fat petals individually.
A Crobat appeared to challenge X; therefore, the Scizor got a running start before gliding into the air, sharpening his claws. Crobat came at X with an Air Cutter as a piercing wind shot at the Scizor. Calmly, X stood there unaffected but he was still in pain from the previous battle with that enormous Tyranitar inside of what was the Pokemon Center. Gliding forward, X attempted a swipe at Crobat and landed it cleanly on top of the bat's head, sending it hurdling towards the ground as Woody came out of no where and slammed his complete body into Crobat.
Gold grinned, unable to believe what energy is Pokemon were battling at. But he and Red were definitely out numbered. But with the Champion beside him, this battle should be cake. Gold did not even look back to see if Soul had fled yet.

Soul and her pokémon watched intently as Red and his team showed off their moves, it was no surprised he was the Champion really. Soul was amazed by the work that they did, it hardly seemed they were battling at all and the brunette almost blocked out everything else, though she was snapped back to earth when she felt a tug on her arm. Her arm was now draped across Gold’s shoulders and she felt her weight rest on him in relief, a soft smile of gratitude appeared on her features for her friends selfless action. However, a beam of red caught her gaze and she peered behind her, catching the sight of Silver returning his Haunter and silently slipping off. Where did he think he was going? Surely Silver didn’t wimp out of the situation did he? Soul didn’t think he would but a spark of concern flared up within her for the redheaded teen, wherever he was off to, she was sure he wasn’t going to get those wounds checked up on. Knowing that stubborn idiot, he would try bandaging himself or do something reckless. A feeling of raw guilt appeared in the bottom of her stomach, it was her own fault he had been attacked last and if he was stupid enough not to get it checked out, she knew she would blame herself. A part of her wanted to follow Silver but a just as dominate part wanted her to stay and beat the crap out of some Team Rocket members.
“W-what, No way!” She spluttered out when Gold told her to leave, sure she was going to anyway but she didn’t want to be seen as useless and weak so she had to be sent away. “I can still stay here and fight with you and Red.” She told him, although she didn’t sound as confident as she had hoped she would sound. Rowan too, didn’t seem to impressed and gave an irritable snort, clearly wanting to keep on fighting too, though Flick didn’t seem to fussed either way, she just seemed to be impressed by the fancy moves the other pokemon knew. Soul glanced over at Red in a pleading gaze that a little child wound do to one of their parents, after the other one had told them off, hoping that they would back them up. A soft sigh escaped from her lips though, glancing to the ground a few moments later, knowing that Red wouldn’t tell her to stay at all. Feeling horribly torn between fighting and leaving, Soul wasn’t sure what to do, Gold no longer propped her up and she felt like falling to the ground at any moment because of the rollercoaster of emotions and the pain she was feeling.
A sudden beam of crimson light surrounded Rowan before sucking the Meganium back into his poke ball, Soul placed the sphere back in her bag before turning on her heel. “Fine, I’ll leave..” She told Gold, deciding to chase after Silver, the sense of guilt and wanting to help him overpowered the desire to stay. “But you better promise to meet up with me soon, or I’ll have to kick your butt for making me worry.” Her annoyed expression vanished for a moment to grin one last time at Gold, before dashing off as fast as she could, Flick bounding after her and easily overtaking her due to her quick speed. Soul bit her lip, forcing tears away which threatened to spill as she dashed around the corner, nearly stumbling and crashing to the ground once or twice. Silver had made a bit of a head start but she was feeling confident that she would catch up to the redhead teen, after all, Furrets were predators and had a keen sense of smell for when they hunted Rattata, so she put her hopes in Flick tracking him down.
Before long, she passed the Pokecenter before all together leaving the remains of Goldenrod, fighting for breath as she stopped for a moment, her hand on her chest as she rested. She didn’t want to but her body pulled her to look back at the ruins of the once great city and for the first time today, she allowed a few silent tears escape before hastily wiping them away from her features, fighting to get her emotions under control again. She glanced down at her wounds for a moment, she would have to bandage herself up at least soon, she had a first aid kit in her bag for emergencies but she wanted to get Goldenrod out of her sight first, knowing the sight of it would only cause her to tear up even more. Soul silently reassured herself that Gold and Red would be okay, after all Red was the champion and Gold was one of the strongest people she knew, though she didn’t like to admit it, he was stronger than herself. Not looking at Goldenrod anymore, Soul turned on her heel and started to make her way onwards once again, she needed to find Silver before he got himself in more trouble.

He was a little relieved that Soul left- even if it was was hesitantly. He knew she had potential, but it was bad enough being responsible for one trainer- he'd hate himself if he was responsible for two and allowed one- or both- to get hurt. There was no time to worry about his ally, though- Red knew very well that they'd both be hampered if the champion was worried about him, and he had to devote every ounce of his attention to the battle- especially when there were so many opponents, such a small margin for error. One mistake, one moment that he wasn't paying attention, and this could all be for naught.
"Mercury! Give me a Sunny Day- sorry, Mex- and go right into the battle after that. Goliath, I want as many Solarbeams as you can pull off."
Red was one to rarely order his Pokemon around, knowing very well that he'd embedded strategies and tactics into their brains against every type of foe. He watched the Espeon as the Sun Pokemon slowly walked away from his side, paws soundlessly hitting the ground as those cold, blank eyes looked skyward- and a blinding white beam shot from the jewel on the Pokemon's forehead to the sky, every cloud shattered and pushed aside as the sun shone through, brilliant and bright. A few enemy Pokemon skid to a halt at this immediately, roaring in anger and dismay as the light pierced their vision- and Mercury took this opportunity to follow the Umbreon, interest piqued as she lunged at the Vileplume.
Of course, not only were they being gnawed on... but the Espeon could smell the poison seeping from them, and with a bored toss of his head, one Vileplume toppled over from seemingly nothing, those dark eyes suddenly shining blue as others were sent slamming into the ground repeatedly, essentially bashed into pulp. For once, the Espeon seemed amused, forked tail flicking almost teasingly as the male glanced over at the female Umbreon, one ear twitching ever-so-slightly.
Goliath seemed quite fine with his orders, the Venusaur barely lumbering forward- ever-so-slightly- towards the fray, waiting for the enemy to come to him. Two Houndoom came forward, eager to blast the Grass Pokemon into pieces- only for the thick, spiked vines to emerge out of seemingly nowhere, the two appendages easily snatching the dogs and holding them up, lazily crushing and smashing their skeletons as the creature absorbed the power of the sun- and the giant flower on the Pokemon's back began to glow white, a warning for anything foolish enough not to move... which was a good chunk of Pokemon, the Solarbeam actually incinerating quite a few opponents who weren't fast enough to move- Red noted that one Marowak was now nothing but dust.
The mayhem continued repeatedly, Goliath easily firing off beam after beam thanks to the intense heat of the sun. Red was concerned when he looked over at Mex- with Sparky perched on the giant tortoise's head, and sighed in relief when she drew in her cannons, head and limbs, and rapidly spun through a group of Pokemon, badly injuring the larger ones and instantly killing the smaller ones. She was doing fine without the advantage of water- especially with Sparky there, the Pikachu occasionally shooting out a Thunderbolt whenever something tried to charge at Mex, particularly the Vileplume.
What Red didn't expect was to see teamwork. Damian had been enraged ever since a Tyranitar managed to land a Stone Edge- the attack, despite Damian's weakness, hadn't crippled him, though it did piss him off. The lizard had been showing off- messing with Jack, as if to assert that he was the better fire-type in every sense of the word. The Charizard barely managed to lift the Tyranitar up in his claws, vengefully bellowing as he flew into the air with the heavy monster in tow, spinning in a circle about five times before throwing the Tyranitar right into a Skull Bash from Mex, the creature flying into a wall. It didn't get up- it didn't even twitch.
"...You know, Gold? I think you have a chance. I'll be looking forward to fighting you someday- hey, Damian! They're all over there, Blast Burn!"
Red was so used to the attack that his Pokemon knew to scatter. Frenzy Plant was far too destructive to the entire area, while Mex's Hydro Cannon wouldn't be worth the power it took thanks to the sun beating down heavily upon them. The Charizard took the cue- the orange-scaled lizard bellowed and roared excitedly, sharply inhaling, dodging attacks with ease, his giant tail-flame somehow engorging itself and inflating more.
The orange and yellow tint flickered to blue and white, the Charizard glancing over at the large congregation of Pokemon Team Rocket had sent out in a certain corner- the monster also knew that he could easily reach the trainers who sent out said Pokemon... and he had no remorse at the thought of what was about to happen to a bunch of irritating humans who even his trainer wanted dead.
They scrambled and ran, but when the truly titanic cone of flame erupted violently from the Charizard's mouth, there were no survivors. Everything the flame even licked was eventually consumed, Damian twisting his head occasionally to catch a few Pokemon that got away- burning them to crisps, mutilating them beyond any hope of recognition. Team Rocket members, Pokemon... there would be no way to tell the difference once even their bones were destroyed, the massive lizard expelling so much fire that he managed to keep up the deadly stream for a good minute before finally snapping his jaws shut, tail-flame flickering slightly as he snorted in satisfaction, making sure to give Jack a challenging glare. It would take a while to recuperate- but the Charizard was confident that he'd be fine in a few minutes.
There were more coming- the amount of Rockets was starting to dwindle, a few even turning tail and running when they saw the charred, mutilated remains of their friends and comrades. Red felt relieved, all of his Pokemon standing at the ready despite being so spread out- even Damian didn't seem to mind the fact that he had just used an exhausting attack.
"How about I teach your Typhlosion that move after this, Gold?"
After this... for the first few minutes he'd been here, he was hoping he could just save the day and run off... but now, he felt like he was obligated to stay. He was obligated to find his friends, obligated to not hide anymore... he wanted to see Leaf again- hell, he even wanted to see Green again, despite that vicious rivalry of theirs. He was a murderer now- a mass-murderer at this rate- but all could be excused when these were the people who burned down a town and slaughtered innocents.
He'd still try to avoid the media and news like the plague... but he wasn't going to go back up to Mt. Silver. Not yet.

It seemed after Gold's Pokemon served up the plate for Red, Team Rocket just... got annihilated. All six of Gold's Pokemon continued to battle whilst keeping up with the battling tactics of Red's Pokemon. Everything was happening so fast and swiftly... that is, until Red's Charizard unleashed a hell raising attack that Gold had never seen before in his life. "Blast Burn?" Gold thought to himself as he watch the Charizard open its mouth and send literally hell in attack form upon not only Team Rocket's Pokemon, but the Grunts as well. Smoke rose from the smithereens and slowly dissembled once the smoke cleared. It literally looked like everyone and everything in the path of the inferno was cremated upon touch. Despite seeing death before his eyes, Gold still managed to be impressed with Red more and more with each attack signal sent out to his Pokemon. "Same to you." Gold nodded at Red about his comment about a potential battle between the two, perhaps on top of Mt. Silver someday. Gold knew that he was not ready for Red by any means after witnessing Red in an actual intense battle where he showed no mercy. But Gold was slowly learning what it meant to be a Champion: you have to be willing to assert yourself in a battle and make sure your Pokemon and yourself are one.
"You kidding me?" Gold said after Red told him that he would help him teach Jack how to use Blast Burn, "That would pretty awesome, man!" Gold's excitement was cut short yet again by another fleet of Team Rocket Grunts, this pack much more smaller and convenient than the previous pack. In fact, many of these Grunts decided to run away after witnessing the immediate death of their comrades. Hell, some Pokemon ran away too! Gold grinned as his Pokemon stood ready while more Pokemon came---Murkrows, Tyranitars, Crobats, Houndooms, Persians, Nidokings, and queens alike. After battling so many Pokemon, Gold was pretty sure that his Pokemon had gained several levels of experience. He checked his Pokemon to see that some of them learned new attacks Convenient. "Jack, Flame Wheel! Abe, Swift! Queen, Ice Beam! Luna, Faint Attack! X, Iron Head! Woody, Hammer Arm!"
The six got back into an attacking formation as Jack led the pack, spiraling into a flaming wheel before darting forward towards a pack of Nidokings and Nidoqueens. The flaming contraption grew larger as the Typhlosion came in contact with the lead Poison Point Pokemon and sent the Nidoking flying back into its family members. While they were on the ground, Jack wheeled up into the air, opening his body like a star as Gold responded, seeing what his Typhlosion wanted, "Lava Plume!" Just then, Jack sputtered out a series of lava attacks from his mouth as it scattered across the Nidos bodies, burning each of them severely, so much that the skin and color pigmentation disappeared. Each of the Pokemon suffered drastically before they lost consciousness and perhaps life.
Abe and Queen worked as a team again this time. The flock of Murkrow came swooping down on the smaller Abe, but the Aipom was ready. He quickly turned his body and swiped his tail sideways as golden, powdery stars appeared and shot up at the Murkow, sending them back up higher into the air. Cartwheeling out of Queen's way, Abe shot another Swift at the Beedrill that came along with the Murkrow right before Queen sent out a massive icy beam directed at the Murkrow and Beedrill. Damaged by the arctic beam, the Murkrows and Beedrill collapsed to the ground, piling up with the burning Nidokings and Nidoqueens.
Luna purred seductively at Mercury. It was not like her to be so... talkative. Nonetheless, she reared up for another Faint Attack, disappaering and then reappearing around a group of Hypnos before Crunching onto the legs and arms of the Psychic-type Pokemon. She really was not one for attacking, but today, she was in quite the aggressive mood.
X was somewhat offended that more Pokemon decided to come and took immediate offense to that. He flipped up on top of a collapsed building and stood before jumping off, the steel material shrouding his head glistening in the Sunny Day. This definitely played to his advantage as Steel-type attacks would not miss in this weather. Spiraling downward like a comment, the Scizor's Iron Head came in contact with several Crobats and Tyranitars, completely denting their heads easily due to the height of which he jumped off the building from. Gliding upward, there was one stray Tyranitar remaining and pointed both of his claws, opened as he waited for Gold's signal. "Flash Cannon!" The inside of X's claws started to glow before releasing a double beam of sparking bright light towards the backside of the remaining Tyranitar that he dealt with. The cannon shot straight through the Dark/Rock-type Pokemon and the beast collapsed into rocky material on the ground.
Gold allowed his Sudowoodo to deal with the Rocket Grunts who dare to face the troublesome combination of the best Trainer in the world in Red and perhaps the heir to the throne in Gold. Woody ran past the Rocket Pokemon Red's Pokemon was battling with and headed straight to the source, slamming his arms and body into the flesh of them. Necks were broke, spines were collapsed, brains were damaged. After completing the job, Woody grinned before mimicking the aspects of X's earlier attack. He charged forward at the last remaining Rocket Grunt and slammed his then Iron Head into the head of the lone man. Let's just say his head fell off and blood spattered and shot up out of his neck like a volcano erupting after so many years of being dormant and inactive. Sure, this was a dreaded scene out of a stereotypical war movie, but Gold couldn't believe he was actually living this in actuality. The thought of seeing a man being bodily harmed before actually would make Gold shiver, but when this man was part of an organization that was up to no good, it did not bother Gold one bit.
Looking over at Red, Gold smirked and said, "Care to finish this off?"

Red could never before say he empathized with some sort of bloodthirsty murderer. He had crossed the threshold- watching with a vendetta burning in his mind, watching as the crimson blood splattered, the cruel satisfaction of hearing every bone break... he found himself frowning at the idea. What would society brand him as after this incident...? A complete maniac? He knew that leaving for three years and coming back only after Team Rocket initiated their terrible plans wasn't going to make him very popular with the media- scapegoats were a fact of life- and the fact that he was almost deriving enjoyment from this slaughter bothered him. Leaf in particular would probably hate him if she ever knew what he was doing right now- ...though he wouldn't be surprised if Green just high-fived him.
He was no better than the crazed dragon that eagerly danced around every foe, waiting for his flame reserves to build back up before unleashing hell upon them again. Every attacker was smashed aside by a thick, flaming tail, torn into bits with claws, caught in the cruelest set of teeth imaginable. Red scoffed at the fact he was comparing himself to Damian- he really had to be crazy to do that- and decided that he would now fit in much better with the rest of the League if they did decide to call him crazy after all.
"Good. I'll be looking forward to a challenge, then. Don't disappoint me when the time comes."
He was growing more and more impressed with Gold every minute, surprised that a trainer who hadn't even cleared Johto's league yet was fighting with such a precision, commanding six Pokemon at once and succeeding at it. Challenge seemed to be a foreign word to Red that had slipped from his vocabulary years ago, one that laid untouched in the recesses of his mind. He felt a sick sort of thrill from this battle, but it wasn't one that he'd be genuinely proud of- the intense atmosphere of a truly challenging battle was much more different, far more pressurized, even if the stakes were usually lower. He hadn't felt that thrill since the crucial battle with Green, the one battle with his rival that was decisively and obviously won.
Team Rocket's numbers seemed to halve with every second, lowered morale combined with the fact that Gold had now actively sent his Sudowoodo after the humans rather than the Pokemon. He watched with interest, noting every strategy, every move... and that was when he glanced over at his own Pokemon to see how they were faring, noting that Damian had returned to his side for the time-being.
Goliath appeared completely apathetic towards the swarms of Houndoom and Murkrow in particular that tried to launch themselves at him, the titanic beast simply shaking his body. It seemed to just be a docile move at first, the enemy completely unaware of the seeds that were spread through the air, along with the poisonous spores that they were already inhaling. Parasitic plants seemed to sprout violently upon impact, leaves digging into flesh like thorns as they attempted to absorb the life force of the attackers and send it back to Goliath. He hadn't been hit very much- but a Flamethrower still hurt, no matter how powerful he was or how weak the enemy was... better safe than sorry, after all. It worked far better for the giant Pokemon's attack style anyway, the Venusaur watching and occasionally cutting a Pokemon's suffering- and life- short with a well-placed Vine Whip.
Mercury was treating this entire thing as little more than a terrible pain, though he was almost mockingly following Luna, feigning a look of deep interest, calmly dispatching Arboks and Weezings as he watched the other evolution charge at a group of Hypno. When virtually every Poison Pokemon in sight was annihilated, the Espeon calmly using a few Helping Hands. Every blue bolt was timed to coincide with a bite from Luna, the Espeon deciding that he'd rather just help and watch than jump into the fray with Pokemon of his own type.
Mex and Sparky continued to team up, still viciously attacking, even if the Sunny Day made it nigh-useless to start using Water attacks, the weather killing any chance Sparky had of using a Thunder attack. While the shelled Pokemon charged up several Focus Punches, aiming to smash anything that got near, Sparky took this as a cue to fight off and distract anything that attempted to make her flinch, the Pikachu trying everything from violently shocking them to swatting them with an Iron Tail. While Pokemon like Gold's Jack and Damian were obviously making quick work of everything around them, the electric rat and the giant tortoise seemed to focus far more on slowly but surely picking Pokemon off one by one.
"I'd be happy to help teach your Typhlosion that move. I'm glad you took the offer. Damian, finish them off!"
The Charizard had been waiting years to be ordered to do what he loved so very much, a roaring bellow of triumph emitted from the creature's gaping jaws as the monstrous dragon charged, his triumphant war cry growing louder and even more terrifying with each Rocket that he attacked. While Woody seemed to go for smashing and crushing, Damian went for cutting, sending out an Air Slash so sharply honed that the blades of wind slashed throats- they didn't have enough force to decapitate the Rockets, but wind could only do so much. There was no mercy, the creature giddily trapping a few humans in a Fire Spin before allowing the ring of fire to grow and swallow them whole.
The battle slowly dwindled into nothing, the chaos of fighting and death slowly dwindling into that numb silence once again. There was nothing left, Red realized. Nothing left of Goldenrod... nothing left of the Rockets who didn't already get away. Sparky immediately dashed back over to his trainer, scampering up the young man's jacket and placing himself on Red's shoulder, the champion habitually lifting up a hand and scratching the rat's ear.
He was surprised that he really felt no horror or remorse for what was done, his Pokemon still on high alert for any last-minute attempts by Team Rocket to take them by surprise. He heard a sickening crunch, and then a slow, methodical chewing, sighing at the fact that Damian was probably trying to eat one of the human beings he'd just killed.
"...I think that's all of them. I hope so, at least."
As much as he now hated Team Rocket... Red felt bad for their Pokemon. Some of them were genuinely crazed and driven mad beyond the point of all hope, but he knew that somewhere deep down, there were a few Pokemon who were just obeying the people they adored, only to be crushed and torn into bits. ...Great, he was going to be sick.
"I picked the greatest time to come back. No doubt the news-people are going to be here soon, too, since the fire's starting to die down."

"Probably." Gold said looking around the area as Red remarked about the news coverage people. The entire battle field looked like a war massacre. With a few flames dying down here and there, scattered across the terrain. For the first time ever, Gold was completely ruthless in battle and for some reason, as did Red, Gold showed no remorse. Just as Team Rocket showed no remorse for Goldenrod, Gold felt as though he should do the same. In a way, Goldenrod represented everything Gold wanted to be: bright, lively, famous, respected. Well, now the most populous city of Johto was blown to smithereens. Nothing Gold nor Red could do about it now but further investigate the happenings of Team Rocket as well as their location. Gold proceeded to walk around, returning all of his Pokemon to their Pokeballs except Abe as the Aipom mimicked Sparky and climbed up his shoulder, clinging to it. "Man..." Gold sighed, shaking his head before hearing the sirens of several cars. He figured it was the feds, news-people, or an ambulance. Lucky for them, it was all three.
"Are you two young men okay?" Officer Jenny spoke as she got out of the car, until noticing that one of the young men was Red. She immediately figured that both young men were perfectly fine and decided to leave them into the care of Nurse Joy and the news-people. With that, she drove off, in search of more survivors of the massacre. Gold sighed and walked over to the back of the ambulance as Nurse Joy tended to his wounds. He looked over at Red as the Champion was immediately surrounded by the news crew and questioned about what exactly went on, his side of the story. Gold smiled slightly, scoffing as he said to Nurse Joy, "Heck, I was right in the midst of it all when it happened. A Tyranitar came in and completely destroyed the Pokemon Center. Luckily, myself, Red, Soul, and Silver were able to take it down." Then, it just donned onto Gold, as Nurse Joy rubbed some alcohol on his wounds and taped his leg, arm, and lower back up, that Soul was out looking for Silver.
"Any idea if your other two friends are okay?" Gold sighed biting his lip as he nodded his head, shifting his mouth as he watched Red being interviewed, ''They're probably okay more than likely. Soul has some First-Aid equipment with her at all times. She's probably... patching up Silver or something." Gold did not necessarily understand why Soul had intentions to go run after Silver. He was definitely not a saint by any means and had done questionable things over the duration of time. He could not simply forgive Silver for things he has done. And deep down, Gold knew that Soul was not just planning on healing Silver physically, but perhaps emotionally and mentally as well. "So much for that date..." "Come again?" "Nothing..."
After Gold was completely taken care of, he took out his PokeBalls (after returning Abe) and gave it to Nurse Joy. She healed them in her portable restorer as Gold decided to walk around, scouting the city for anything interesting at all. Heading over to the location where the Game Corner was, Gold jammed his fists into his pockets, shaking his head. He really loved that place. Just then, something caught his eye. Meanwhile, the clouds in the sky began to ripple and open up a beautiful sunset scenery. The sun beamed down on a particular spot on the ground, reflecting off a golden material laying flat on the asphalt. Curious, Gold slowly crept up to the item and knelt down. "Hm," Gold smiled to himself as he picked up the thing with his index finger and thumb, struggling for a bit, "a Gold casino coin." Grinning, he flipped the coin with his thumb and caught it in his hand. A sign of hope for Gold, as luck was still on his side enough that he could find a diamond in the rough.
Later, Gold walked back over to the medical scene and retrieved his Pokemon from Nurse Joy. He thanked her and walked back over to Red. The news crew had left as well as they too looked for more survivors with the Pokemon Center ambulance trailing right behind them. Looking south where Soul had went and then back at Red, Gold sighed and scratched the back of his head, looking at his idol surely, "So, what exactly do we do now?" Gold asked the question but he had a answer, reply, and a suggestion to the cause. He immediately suggested a question , "Honestly... I think it's about time that the forces of Kanto and Johto come together to stop Team Rocket. Today is living proof that we can take them down if we combine the forces of the region. Sure, we may be rival regions, but these..." he held out his arms, indicating the wreckage amongst them, "...these are serious times where we need to come together as one, stopping Team Rocket once and for all. You with me?" Gold nodded, dropping his arms as he looked at Red, determinedly.

He was glad they were out of that mess- why wouldn't he be? But there was something much worse about the media, the fact that he couldn't just brush them off or battle them to make them go away. He felt that familiar, irritating knot in his stomach, Red begging them to swarm around the smoldering remains of the city rather than focus on him. Unfortunately for Red, higher forces had a sense of humor today, and directly after returning Damian, Mex, Mercury and Goliath to their Pokeballs, that painfully nostalgic sound rang in his ears.
The sirens didn't faze him- he imagined nothing could really rattle him anymore after what he'd seen today- but what did plant the seeds of chaos and discord were the news-people. They were awful... vultures circling around the kill, picking at Goldenrod's corpse for profit and glory. He was just a nice way for them to get a fat bonus to their paycheck, and that was probably what disgusted him the most. He watched as Nurse Joy assisted Gold, though when the champion was asked, he simply brushed it off- Sparky emphasized that he was all right by happily squeaking when she approached. After all, Red couldn't find a single gash or scrape that hadn't already been on him before he even got here... so why would he waste a good Samaritan's time when there were so many dead and dying scattered about like flies?
"Mr. Champion, sir! You're finally back... so, why the extended absence?" "Why did you come back today of all days? Did Team Rocket attack because of you?" "...Red, sir, do you feel any sort of remorse for not being here for three years?"
Sparky could feel the tension in his trainer, fists clenching, those crimson eyes lit with some hellish fire as Red resisted every instinct that told him to turn tail, jump on Damian, and run. He was their hero, he was their idol, and was supposed to be their savior... like it or not, he was the Champion. If he faltered, of course they would question it. He would be blamed... because society needed something to blame, so they could feel better about themselves. It was Red's turn to play scapegoat, apparently... and he knew very well he wasn't ready for the venomous words that would ensue.
"...I was training on Mt. Silver for three years. I had no outside contact, so even if I was needed, I doubt messages would be able to reach me. I usually only left to restock on supplies, and when I got here, the city was already in ruins."
He knew they would twist his words around, jab at him, interrogate him, take advantage of the fact that he hated them so much... he knew this little game. He despised it, but he could play it. And then the idea hit him- he couldn't let Team Rocket think they'd get away. He had sworn his vendetta to himself, but now it was time to up the ante and solidify his anger.
"...I would also like to state that any and all Team Rocket members I see will suffer. They'll be repaid for what they've done today tenfold."
He couldn't make his violence obvious... he'd rather not get stuck in a nuthouse before he could find Giovanni and strangle him for what the organization he created had done. The very irritation and fury that rang through every word seemed to intimidate the reporters... though they eventually took advantage of the fact they had finally caught the champion to continue their relentless barrage.
"Do you personally think Giovanni was behind this? I thought you defeated him, and after that, Team Rocket was gone." "...Red, will you actually be sticking around now, or should the League just give the title back to Lance?"
Every biting inquisition was answered- no matter how cruel or crude- and before Red knew it, finally, the groups dispersed, especially after realizing that there were some living, breathing people and Pokemon trapped under feet of smoldering rubble. The champion heaved a sigh before removing his hat and scratching at his head, the heavy atmosphere lifting the moment Sparky started trying to cheer him up by slapping the hat on his own head. Red almost laughed at the spectacle of it, the electric rat cheerfully squeaking and chirping as he was blinded simply because the piece of clothing was far too big for him.
Goldenrod as it was... was dead and gone. There was absolutely no doubt about that. But when Red thought about it, he knew that everything had chance to be rebuilt. If disgusting things like Team Rocket could emerge 'bigger and better', then this city certainly had a chance as well. There would be rebuilding, recovering... Red knew he couldn't turn back now. No doubt things were going on in Kanto- were Leaf and Green all right?- but judging by the sheer cruelty Team Rocket had displayed today, he was suddenly worried sick.
He remained relatively quiet when Gold approached and offered a stirring proposition, Red's mind quietly circling around just how far Team Rocket would sink, just how low they could possibly go... Sparky twitched an ear anxiously, the golden-furred Pokemon anxiously popping the hat off of his body as he looked around.
"There isn't much we can do other than help in any way we can right now, but I'm sure we'll work together to solve this eventually- I'll make sure of it. I've always hated the regional rivalry around here..." Red sighed, glancing around at the carnage and death around them, "but I can't believe it took something like this to bring us together."
The champion glanced over towards the looming trees of the Ilex Forest, almost as an afterthought... Red blinked once or twice before remembering just why he was so bothered, the champion calmly extending a hand towards Gold.
"...You're probably worried about your friends, right? I've got a few friends I want to check up on, too- so maybe we'll see each other soon, Gold. Maybe we won't see each other until you fight me- either way, I'm looking forward to it."
The younger trainer reminded him... and god, Red was worried. Green was a total smartass- he'd just piss off any Team Rocket member that went after him into leaving- but Leaf? Leaf, the one who hated fighting, the one who decided to be a breeder...? He felt concerned for both of them, but what alarmed him was that he knew where Green would probably be... while he had no clue where Leaf would be. He needed to hurry... he had to hurry, before Team Rocket decided to strike a lot closer to home than burning down Goldenrod City.

Gold nodded his head at Red, indicating that this was probably the time that he and the Champion should part ways, for now anyway. Gold hated that his experience with Red came at such a dreadful time, but he learned a lot from this experience nonetheless. Turning his back toward the city, Gold look at the many trees of the Ilex Forest. Where was he to go now? Gold considered going up north to Ecruteak City, but something in him wanted to go home. Go home and check on his mother to see if she was okay. Go home to alert Professor Elm about Team Rocket. Yeah, that made a lot of sense. Gold had been training for quite sometime, taking a reasonable break from his Gym Leader challenge. Gold' mom always said that he could come home at any time and take a break from his journey whenever he called her. Gold had not been home since Jack was an innocent and playful Cyndaquil. Things have changed dramatically since those days of complete unknowing and second guessing. Gold turned his neck and looked back at Red as he said, "I'm going home for a bit. I need to see my mom, Elm, and my other friends in New Bark Town. I'll see you around soon. I just think I need to spend some time with the New Bark-ians."
After Red's eventual reply, Gold ventured into the Ilex Forest. He was not necessarily looking for Silver or Soul, but if he saw them along the way, that would be a plus. The main thing on his mind right now was getting home and recovering from his injuries. With a complete new mindset, when Gold should leave his home, it would be like he's starting a completely new journey... but with an advance on the badges of course. If Red ever looked to trees, he would notice that Gold had completely vanished from Goldenrod.
