THE SIGNAL INTERRUPTS:
MY BABY'S FREQUENCY'S NOT STRONG ENOUGH.
REMAIN IN MY HANDS, AND SMILE
WE'LL MISS YOU, BUT IN TIME WE'LL GET SETTLED
AND WE WILL WRITE...
Eli woke west of Ecruteak, with a bad headache, much like the kind he got from a night spent binge drinking. Only problem was, the aging man hadn't been able to afford a drop of alcohol in days. What had done him in, and sent him out cold in the middle of the grass was toxic gas from a Weezing. The fumes still lingered in his system, making him dizzy even as he sat up, cradling his head in his hands and groaning, delirious and confused. He had to sit there for nearly a minute collecting his thoughts before finally remembering what had happened.
He remembered... running. Sprinting like a young man the moment his portable radio started to broadcast the Team Rocket's latest declaration of war. He had been on his way to the Lake of Rage when he had heard it, and while he knew that there was no way he could make it to Goldenrod to make a difference, he had to try. But on his journey toward Ground Zero he encountered one of those black-shirted villains running in the opposite direction. Perhaps fleeing the scene, or persecution? It mattered not to Eli. The moment he saw the large red "R" on the young punk's chest, he set after him like a wild animal. He almost didn't notice releasing his Flaaffy from her Pokeball, and bellowing "THUNDERBOLT" as the Rocket sent his Raticate and Arbok out to take care of their attackers.
Eli's own Electabuzz, Naomi, coupled with the Flaaffy occupied the villain's Pokemon, and Eli lost touch with reality for a few moments as he began to set after the Rocket with his fists, content to beat the much younger man to death here in the grass. But it would not end as the detective would have liked; the Rocket in desperate attempt to escape releases his Weezing, whom emitted a toxic gas, knocking Eli out cold.
Not knowing it had been hours since the incident, Eli jumped to his feet to make a wild pursuit. It was then that he noticed Fallon, the Flaaffy, lying in the dirt with Naomi, the one-eyed Electabuzz standing vigil over them both. Stricken with panic, Eli stumbled over to her, finding her badly wounded, barely conscious. Ecruteak's Pokemon Center was nearby, but he did not have the time for that. There was too much ground to be made up, so he decided to sling the battered sheep over his shoulder instead and start giving chase. Outside of her Pokeball he could monitor her condition, and whisper soft, soothing words through his labored breaths.
As always, Naomi was right at his heels, adjusting the red scarf that covered her fire-damaged eye. She was concerned for her trainer and Pokemon companion, knowing that neither of them were in the condition to go running through the woods, chasing ghosts. But she would not offer any protest, knowing that Eli would simply reprimand her for it. But night was drawing in, and with it the cold would chill their bones and souls. Hopefully by then her beloved, misguided master would have come to his senses, and decided to give Fallon the medical attention she desperately needed.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, BUT DO ME A FAVOR, BABY,
DON'T REPLY. BECAUSE I CAN DISH IT OUT,
BUT I CAN'T TAKE IT.
